Chris Jones & Missy Raines to Deliver Keynote Speech
On Monday, September 24 at 1:15 p.m., award-winning artists Chris Jones and Missy Raines will deliver the Keynote Address at the 2012 IBMA Business Conference in Nashville.
Missy Raines, winner of an extraordinary seven IBMA awards for Bass Player of the Year, is the only woman to win more than one IBMA instrumental award. Over the course of her career, she has worked with legends like Josh Graves, Kenny Baker, and Jesse McReynolds. She was a member of the Grammy-nominated Claire Lynch Band and also toured internationally with guitarist Jim Hurst. With her dynamic young band, the New Hip, Raines explores fusions of jazz, bluegrass, pop, and funk. Her latest recording, Inside Out, was released on Compass in 2009. Raines is also a faculty member of ArtistWorks new interactive “Bass Super School.”
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Jones has toured and recorded with a diverse assortment of renowned artists, including Earl Scruggs, Vassar Clements, The Chieftains, the Lynn Morris Band, and the Weary Hearts. He has performed on the Grand Ole Opry, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Emeril Live, and The Grand Ole Opry Live, and he recently appeared in the PBS series The Appalachians as a performer and commentator. “Man On The Side Of The Road,” his duet with Tom T. Hall, was one of the Top 5 airplay bluegrass songs of 2001. He was named IBMA’s 2007 Broadcaster Of The Year for his work as a bluegrass DJ on Sirius Satellite Radio, and that year also won a co-writer’s Song Of The Year award for “Fork In The Road,” covered by the Infamous Stringdusters. Often accompanied by his band The Night Drivers, Jones appears at shows and festivals all over the globe.

On Wednesday, September 26, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., a discussion and Q&A session dedicated to Will The Circle Be Unbroken will be a featured event at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass Business Conference. The 1972 landmark recording brought Mother Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, Vassar Clements, Bashful Brother Oswald Kirby, Norman Blake, Jimmy Martin, Roy Acuff, and others into a studio with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, a popular country-folk-rock group, to record a triple album that made music history. It was an irresistible bridge to bluegrass and old-time music for rock audiences. Hosted by John McEuen of the Dirt Band, the event will feature rarely-seen photographs of the recording sessions, most shot by producer William E. McEuen. The celebration will continue at 6:15 that evening with a session devoted to music from the recording, with John and a few very special guests.
